So, I've already started cutting up those fat quarters that I won...
Quite a while ago now I bought a book called Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. Although it is a great book, full of excellent projects, I bought it mostly for the Color-Wheel Quilt pattern. I love it, and I knew instantly that I wanted to make it for someone who would really appreciate it.
One of my life long friends, who studied visual arts at university, got married last year. I thought this quilt would make an excellent wedding gift, but there were two problems with that idea: Problem one, it turns out that the Color-Wheel Quilt is actually quite small, more of a baby sized quilt, really. Problem two, I had approximately zilch skills or experience in quilting, so, to make it queen sized, like I wanted to, was beyond my ability.
Anyway, a couple things have happened recently that have pushed me to finally get around to making this quilt. Firstly, my arty friend is having a baby. Yay! The quilt is baby sized. Secondly, I won a rainbow bundle of fat quarters - coincidence, I think not.
So, I started cutting into all fabric that I own. So far I have cut up everything that has one main colour to the design, and I still need at least twenty more different coloured wedges...
... this one is going to take a while, but Baby is only due in January next year, so I should have enough time.
